A slightly different Tuesday’s Headshot Tips today…

I’ve just started watching Longmire with actors, Robert Taylor and Katee Sackhoff as the male and female leads.

It’s funny sometimes, you see an actor and you know you’ve seen them somewhere before and it’s frustrating when you just can’t place them. If my wife was watching with me she’d have known straight away.

I decided to do a search on Katee Sackhoff to see where I recognised her from. She’s been in Battlestar Galactica and the Mandalorian and loads of other things – but it was Another Life I recognised her from.

Body aesthetic

I came across a video that she’d made about how she prepared for her characters and trained for their ‘body aesthetic’. She looked at the character she was going to play and created a body that suited them.

Wow, that gave me a new insight into how deep an actor can get into their character preparation. And, how much every actor should be doing when prepping for a role.Tuesday's Headshot Tips - Going Deep on Preparation

But, then I also thought about how this applied to the preparation an actor should do for their headshot session. You know I’m big on this and have talked about it before in Tuesday’s headshot tips.

Being professional and doing your preparation is not only vitally important in the success of your next headshot session but also to your career as a whole!

I’ve had actors rock up on the day and hope for the best. This varies from your hair in the wrong style or bits sticking up. It could mean being tired, not having enough sleep or going out to ‘party’ the night before. It could also mean forgetting to bring any clothing options, the list is almost endless!

This is madness, a waste of money and still happens occasionally and I don’t know why? Obviously, they haven’t been keeping up to date with Tuesday’s headshot tips!

Preparation

Preparations are a vital part of the headshot session, and it’s worth putting your preparation in to get the very best out of your session.

Anyway, watch the video, the first part is about how she prepares for her characters and she talks you through her approach. Why would a particular role have a certain body style and why a different body aesthetic would not work for her vision of the character?

The second part of the video is all about the actual training she does to achieve that particular body style. It’s about weight, body fat percentage and muscle mass and diet.

I found this just as interesting because I’m into training too – admittedly not at her level – and constantly looking to keep on top of my weight and body fat.

Anyway, I thought this was an interesting insight into how you stay at the top of your game and work a Tuesday’s Headshot tips post.
